{"id":92,"date":"2004-09-08T09:44:15","date_gmt":"2004-09-08T09:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hamzy.net\/blog2\/?p=92"},"modified":"2004-09-08T09:44:15","modified_gmt":"2004-09-08T09:44:15","slug":"i_am_a_winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hamzy.net\/blog2\/?p=92","title":{"rendered":"I am a winner!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, I received this in the mail:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pictures.hamzy.info\/AwardsVerificationCenter.jpg\" alt=\"winning notification\"><\/img><\/p>\n<p>They say:<\/p>\n<pre>We are holding pre-paid round trip airfair and accommodations for\ntwo to your choice of Las Vegas\/Orlando, value $1,250.00, in your\nname, plus one of the four guaranteed prizes: A Hummer, Navigator\nor Yukon Denali or $40,000 CASH, a $1,500 Shopping Spree, Exotic\nIsland Adventure, $806 value or $500.00 Cash.<\/pre>\n<p>Ok, let&#8217;s parse this statement out.  Normally a list is item1 <em>comma<\/em> item2 <em>comma<\/em> item3 <em>or<\/em> item4. There are six commas.  There are three ors.  When items in a list contain commas then they should have used semicolons to separate them.  But, they did not.  Also notice there are two variations of cash capitalization.  So, how can I parse this list?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Hummer<\/li>\n<li>Navigator or Yukon Denali or $40,000 CASH<\/li>\n<li>a $1,500 Shopping Spree, Exotic Island Adventure, $806 value<\/li>\n<li>$500.00 Cash<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A Hummer, Navigator or Yukon Denali<\/li>\n<li>$40,000 CASH<\/li>\n<li>a $1,500 Shopping Spree, Exotic Island Adventure, $806 value<\/li>\n<li>$500.00 Cash<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A Hummer<\/li>\n<li>Navigator or Yukon Denali<\/li>\n<li>$40,000 CASH<\/li>\n<li>a $1,500 Shopping Spree, Exotic Island Adventure, $806 value or $500.00 Cash<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Or many more combinations.  You get the picture.<\/p>\n<p>Its not like this is the first mailing that I have received from these people.  I receive them about once every three months.  I wonder at what point mailing these cards to me will cost more money they they can make?
