Mike and Jon

Today we drove down to Pease park for some disc golf. It was a nice day (although it was overcast). Perhaps that is why the course was emptier than usual. Not that I was complaining or anything.

Hole 3

Hole three is a hard hole. It curves off to the right and runs along a river on the left. Since the usual backhand throw will curve off to the left, you have to anhyzer it to the right. Unfortunately, the plan failed and the disc went to the left. But I was lucky that we are in a drought and the river was low. Otherwise my disc would have been wet.

Hole 15

Hole 15 is another hard hole. You have to throw over the river and through a rather small gap in the leaves of trees. So it was nice when my shot did exactly that and land on the other side out in the open.

Jeff

We ate lunch at EZs next to Central Market. As we were finishing, we notice Jeff walk in. I tried getting his attention via Twitter. But he said that his phone was not connected to the network. What a broken blackberry. iPhones don’t have that problem…

Dragon's Lair

And after lunch we stopped by Dragon’s Lair. I bought a mini for the D&D game.

Oak Tree Trimming

We decided to head out to Benbrook for disc golf today. It has been a while since we have played there. We met at a Starbucks to carpool down there. It seems that they were trimming the Oak trees. I wonder why they cut most of the branches off of them. So sad.

Concrete pipe bridges

It seems that they installed concrete pipe sections to use as a bridge for river crossings. Not that the water level was high or anything.

Mowing the yard

The course looked like it had been groomed recently. The grass was cut. Including the “rough” of the course. I thought that it was odd then that someone was out there with a lawn mower.

Good throw

For the most part, we did well. Ignoring the disc eating small lake. I had one great throw where my sidewinder anhyzered to the right around the trees and close to the basket.

El Coyote

For lunch we stopped at El Coyote. Which used to be some other Tex Mex place. Oddly enough, the inside of the place was oppressively humid. So we sat outside under the porch. The temperature was great but the traffic noises were occasionally loud.

new hole

It was a beautiful Friday and this motivated us to play some disc golf. We decided to try the normal Old Settler’s Park course. When the dam was being worked on, some stole one of the extra baskets (I believe the C hole). Well, it looks like the Round Rock disc golf group went ahead and built another basket. This one seems like it would be a lot harder to run over.

hole 5
hole 6

I went to play some disc golf before watching the Watchmen today. It was a nice day out and I haven’t been to the Luthern Church in a while. Its a really short course and easy to make birdies.

small flags

There were these small orange flags on the course. I wonder what they were originally used for?

bent pipes

And there were a number of bent pipes sticking in the ground as well. Weird.

New Sonic

There is a new Sonic right next to the Church. Which is just what the world needs…

Hidden cross

You know, I never did notice this hidden cross before. It is located near the three large crosses. Churches seem to love cross iconography.

Jon in rough
Jon in water

Since Marty was planning on playing games at Great Hall Games today, I decided to join him. So we played at a nearby course, Bart. Bart is a pretty odd course. It is in a run-down and abandoned park. The course needs some serious grooming (which was not that bad of a problem in the winter). And it needs a couple of baskets

Hoover's

For lunch we went to Hoover’s. Mmm, good, old-fashioned, country cooking…

broken birdhouse

We went to the Rivery for disc golf today. While I was out practicing, I noticed a broken bird house sitting next to a path. I hope that they replace it so that the cute little birdies have someplace to live this spring!

Jon in trees

Man, hole 3 is getting harder to throw over the trees! I wish those things would stop growing!

hole 5

We went to Wilco to play disc golf this morning. And boy, was it cold and windy out there. We were hoping that the somewhat sheltered area would help somewhat. But when Jon states: “My tears are frozen,” it is not looking good. So we played quickly. I had a good first throw on the tough hole five.

hole 7

Hrm, I wonder what a-hole is tearing the bark off of the tree on hole seven? That tree is likely to die a slow death…

Christmas Scenes

It seems that there are a bunch of Christmas scenes that have been painted and placed in Old Settler’s Park.

Hole 17

The day was beautiful out. It was nice and warm but overcast. Certainly much warmer than tomorrow would turn out. Only one birdie on hole 17.
