Throw off target

We played disc golf at Cat Hollow today. As I was practicing throwing, one of my discs flew off-course. Way, way, off-course, across the street, and into someone’s front lawn…

Mountain Juniper

Ugh, it seems that the Cedar (aka Juniper) trees are starting to show signs of blooming. I sense much mucus in my future…

Almost Ace

I had a near ace on one of the holes this morning. My disc hit the yellow metal on the basket. Which, sadly, does not count in the least…

tire plant

I know that Central Texas is in a severe drought and such. But I didn’t think that it was this bad. A shredded tire is seen growing out of the ground.

Fixed parking lot

We finally got a chance to play at Old Settler’s Park today. What with all of the closings going on for kids running. It seems that the dam construction is finally finished. They cleaned up the space that they had reserved for construction equipment and repaved the parking lot.

repaved field

They repaved the field as well with artificial blue plastic netting. That looks natural…

Missing basket

One of the extra holes was missing its basket. I wonder what happened to it? Which is a shame. On both of my throws to it, my disc landed right next to it!

One glove Jon'

It was a little on the cool side this morning. And it didn’t help that it was windy out. But what do you expect at Old Settler’s? A calm day? No! Apparently it was cold enough to wear a glove…

Jon's long birdie

Since OSP was closed again thanks to a track and field meet (how can a rather large park be entirely closed?!), we decided to abort to the Rivery. And Chapel decided to abort because of the wind and cold. But it turned out to be not as cold as I dressed for.

Jon made an extremely long putt for a birdie! After his initial throw hit an early tree.

Hole 1

I birdied that hole as well, but my putt was much closer.

Hole 11
Hole 15

I also made two other birdies! On holes 11 and 15. Which I think is a record for me.

Lime in a Corona

Afterward, we ate at Dos Salsas. And we had to settle for Coronas (with limes forceably stuffed in them) instead of Mojitos.

Jon

Today’s weather for disc golf was beautiful: warm, not windy, and no strong sun. And yet, the sky looked like a cold, winter day. It was overcast out there.

Hole 5

I did pretty well today. I had a birdie on hole 5. And was ahead for most of the day. Until the last hole, 18. Which gave me worse than a snowman.

Ramirez party

Jon and I had wanted to play disc golf today at Old Settler’s Park. But it was not meant to be. Apparently, they were holding a huge track and field event. School buses were everywhere. We decided to play elsewhere. Like at the Rivery in Georgetown. And it seems that it was a good thing that we arrived somewhat early. It seems that the Ramirez family was holding a party. (Afterwards, we come back to our cars to find that the parking spots were overwhelmed by people attending this reunion). And, while we were playing, we also realized that Cat Hollow would not have been a good place to play because of the Hairy Man Festival going on there!

Hole 1

Hole 1 was an easy birdie.

Hole6

I looks like someone is trying to make a maker for hole 6? But it looks more like a 5 to me.

Cool Chair

And it looks like someone left a cool art chair on the course around hole 8. It was covered in many decorations like fur, rocks, shells, and tiny statues.

Jon and Nick

Jon, Nick and myself played at Cat Hollow Today.

Hole 3
Hole 18

I got a couple of birdies on holes 3 and 18. 18 is especially tough. There is a row of trees that block easy access to the basket. You have to throw a high hyzer to the right and up and over the trees. And, if you make it over them, it would then fall back to the left land close to the basket. Or, at least, that is the plan. This time it both made it over the trees and landed close enough for a birdie!

Discs in the muck

Mike, Jon, and I went out to the Brenbrook subdivision to play disc golf at the new course. This was our second time out there. I drove us out there in my BMW X5 loaner car. The directions that the iPhone gave us was a little squirrelly. But we made it to the proper location.

Hole 5 was rather tough because the out of bounds areas were not mowed down like it was for the rest of the course. Jon managed to narrowly miss throwing his disc in the lake. And I managed to get stung by a wasp.

Hole 9

I did get a birdie on hole 9. But it was not that tough. The hole is only a short distance away and it is in a wide open field.

Mike and Jon

Hole 17 was not that hard with the severe drought that we have been through. The pond where you throw your disc over is completely dry.

They have made one improvement to this course. They put concrete tubes that act as bridges where you have to cross water. But this course still needs a lot of improvement. There are no signs for the tees. And there are a couple of places where you can get confused as to where to go next.

Extra tees on Hole 3
Extra tees on Hole 4
Extra tees on Hole 10
Jon on on Hole 14

Jon and I played at Wilco today. And it seems that there was a little bit of preparation for the upcoming Outlaw Singles Shootout. There were temporary tee boxes on holes 3, 4, and 10.

bones

We came across some bones. Which were part of a vertebral column. Who knows what creature it came from. Or what ripped it up.

Chuy's Hatch festival

After the round, we stopped at Chuy’s for lunch. The Green Hatch Chile festival was still going on. They had a cute tie in with the presidential elections.

Jon

Jon and I did another round of disc golf at Wilco this morning.

Outlaw Singles

Man, this course was crowded this morning. I am guessing that the upcoming Outlaw Singles might have something to do with that.

Hole 17

On hole 17, my Wraith barely made it around the huge group of trees on the left. And I was able to putt it in for a birdie.

On hole 18, I found a blue Valkrye which had no name on it. I left it on top of 18’s basket. Later on, when we left (because we had skipped the first 6 holes due to congestion), someone was asking about that disk. I told him where it was (and I hope that it was still there).
