John in mulch

With the weather being so beautiful outside, I had to take the day off! Unfortunately, F.F.F. is this Friday night so John was anchored to somewhere local. We decided on Pease Park. Boy were we rusty! Wilco sure didn’t prepare us for this course. John found himself in the mulch…

John in the water

…in the water…

John in the canyon

…and in the small canyon (from the erosion)…

New Pease signs

Wow, they installed new signs at Pease park! It looks to be from the same company that did the signs at Kyle. I wish the other disc golf courses around here would use those signs as well…

Help recreate Pease Park

It looks like they sectioned off a small area in the park to test how it will erode over time? But wouldn’t you think that if the section is fenced off then that would stop people from walking on it and that would affect the outcome of the tests?

Afterwards we stopped at the Mellow Mushroom where we ate a spinach and mushroom calzone. John probably won’t return me the favor next time though (being that I dislike mushrooms and had to pick them out).

new parking lot
new restroom
new emergency call box
new lights

I haven’t been to the Rivery in a while. And it looks like they have done some construction in my absence. They paved the parking lot, they built a restroom near the playground (and hole 1), they installed some emergency call boxes, and they put some street lights in. Some of which are directly in our line of throw on hole 6!

hole 6 overgrown

In fact, hole 6 is completely overgrown! And I gave up on it when my sidewinder went into the trees. Which pissed off John as he managed to par it. Hehe… but thems the breaks….

garbage can graffiti

Some one wrote some graffiti on the garbage can next to hole 2. It says “I only play the games that I win at”.

new bridge

Today, the “group” met at Old Settler’s. And, by group, I mean John. It looks like a “bridge” was built over the tiny creek. I guess some construction equipment needed access and the tiny, wooden bridge was not cutting it.

Bogey Lives Here

Apparently there is a famous snake that lives at hole four called Bogey. I don’t think I have ever seen a snake at Old Settler’s before.

Cars in the way

It seems Old Settler’s park is rather crowded today. We did not throw at hole sixes’ tee box for fear of whacking a car. Given the number of people walking dogs out here, John guess that Barktober fest was going on here. We asked a couple with two large dogs (Great Danes?) and they confirmed his guess.

wild mushrooms

I often see wild mushrooms growing in different spots. But there are many poisonous varieties. Does large equate to edible? Who am I kidding? I don’t eat mushrooms at all. Even store bought ones.

disc retriever

Some one lost a retriever it seems. But it looks pretty short to me. Not much use in my experience

Beer

Mmmm, beer! John is slowly completing his transformation. He brought some beer to disc golf today. Now all he needs is to carry some Mary Jane…

good shot

John and I were playing great today. We kept neck-in-neck in the score. And we had a number of great throws. Which I attribute to the beer…

Hole 2
Hole 7

We had six people play at Cat Hollow today. Including a relative of Nick and Stephanie who I teamed with. I had great first shots on some of the toughest holes for me, holes 2 and 7. So I was happy. But, even though I asked if people wanted to have lunch with me at the Tilted Kilt at the start (because I had errands in that area). When the group finished, everyone ditched me. Sigh.

John and I played at Wilco today. Its still pretty hot out there. Still feels like summer even though it is most definitely fall. But I can’t complain. At least I had one good throw in me.

New guy Dan

Today, we had a new guy, Dan, join us who I know from work. He did pretty good for a beginner. His side arm throw is better than mine. And he actually sank a long putt on hole seven.

Loco

Afterwards, we ate at Mangia Pizza because they have an outdoor seating area which allows dogs. John grabbed Loco! out of his car. Too bad it was a little too breezy for this card game.

Good throw #1 on hole three
Good throw #3 on hole three

Gravitt was abnormally missing today at Wilco. Which may explain why I was throwing good today. Hole number 3 has a tough first throw. And I made it into the green around the corner. My third throw landed next to the basket making this an easy par.

Birdie on hole 5
Birdie on hole 8

Holes 5 and 8 were easy birdies as well.

Allergy bloom

Ugh! My allergies have started to act up and it sucks. I wish plants would stop having sex all over me. I wonder if this is one of the culprits…

John looking for a disc

The start for today was rather brutal for John. He whacked his hand on a metal pole and caused the disc to fly off course. Where we lost it in the trees. And that was not the only disc that we lost. I lost two. And John lost three. But we came back after the first round was over and were able to spot the disc high in the trees!

tournament

The tournament took forever. The biggest problem was that it was played over two courses that were miles apart. We were forced to wait for everyone to comeback from Kyle. Finally, at 3:30 we headed out for the second round.

I kept remarking how it had not rained yet. And the fact that this was the first tournament that I have ever played where it has not rained. But fate would continue along in its footsteps and sprinkle a little bit on us. We were lucky. It rained much harder in San Marcos where we had just left.

Ugh. The tournament took forever to finish. We finally left for home at 8pm…
